289 fuel pump with vacuum wipers

Hey all

I rebuilt the carb tonight on the 66 and no dice. I'll do some checking tomorrow night but I'm pretty sure I've got a bad fuel pump. No biggie right. I've got vacuum wipers and I want to keep them. It took me a while to figure out why the pump looks like R2D2. Anyway does anyone know where to get the correct pump, who rebuilds them, or how to rebuild?

Thanks
Fred

I think I recently saw on one of the Vendor websites that the 289 combo/vacuum pump is no longer available and you have to run the wipers off of manifold vacuum.
Obviously I can't say if this is true or if maybe some other supplier has them.

I was just out looking at how it's rigged and it looks like it's already running off manifold vacuum. I'm guessing that the problem with that is when you are at idle your wipers run really slow. Does the vacuum pump correct that? I'm in so cal ,so it's not a big issue

I have a couple of rebuilt Carter built original Ford fuel pumps I would sell for $200.00 each.
I also have a NOS genuine Ford one in the box I would part with for $300.00
Carter made them for Ford years ago.

That's a little steep for me. I'll try to get it rebuilt. Thanks for the offer. I might look you up later though

If the wipers are hooked up to manifold vacuum they should be strongest at idle. That's how mine are once the 300 doesn't have a fuel/vacuum pump. They stop if you stomp on it since you're near 0 vacuum and are strongest at idle or engine breaking.

So is it the vacuum pump what gives you the vacuum normally? My wipers are hooked to a manifold source than one of the in/outputs from the pump goes to a t fitting on the manifold with the wipers. The other in/ output on the pump is open. What is the proper setup?
