351w distributor shaft size

Is the a difference in the length and diameter of 351w distributors? Below is a picture of the late model 351w distributor and the new duraspark distributor I bought for a late 70s 351w. Clearly the late model distributor has an extra .5in length and the end is tapered down from .52 diameter to .50in. What model and year distributor do I need? The one I have will not seat due to the 20 thousandths difference.

It's exactly .500" longer actually.. There was a thread on this not long ago, I had both distributors to demonstrate just as you do. What exact engine are you looking for a distributor for, would help answer your question.
