Anyone running a 351w with Edelbrock Performer Intake...will this combo fit under a stock hood? I have a 351w and buying a new hood but I know that I want to add a new intake in the future...most common is the Edelbrock Performer...but my stock set up barely fits so trying to find out if I have to go with a scooped hood to give me room. Comments please.

That is the "go-to" intake.

With a 4160, no spacer, and a really low profile (2"), dropped platform air filter, it will fit. The stock air cleaner is even lower if you still have it.

So the answer is yes...a very conditional yes....lol

Thanks Nut - I have the Fitech now but it's really about the same as the edelbrock carb that I had previously so I may have to make some dimension comparisons to the 4160

I have seen them up close. They are at least as low as a 4160 maybe a smidge lower.

you can use the stock hood with a "scoop" added... or just buy the fiberglass that makes it unique to you..

The Performer is a real tight fit. No spacer limits the carb choice, because there isn't room for a carb spacer with a PCV connection or an insulating spacer. The Performer EGR has a lower carb mounting pad that will work with a 1" spacer. The hurdle you need to clear is the EGR hole or port. I threaded mine and screwed a pipe plug into the hole. I then cut it short and had the surface milled flat. Ford made carb spacers for marine applications that block the EGR hole here's one;https://www.ebay.com/itm/Carburetor...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649. Boats don't need all the automotive emissions equipment. The best air cleaner is the OE Bronco unit '73-'77. Ford knew that conventional flat top air cleaner lids sit too close to the carb's air horn and block air flow. I value the original appearance of the stock hood and position of the grill bottom above the frame.

Thx for the comments - jckkys You reminded me that I have 1" body lift...so maybe the combination of no spacer, the body lift, plus a stock air filter will keep me inside a stock hood.

I'm running a 351W with a 2181 Edelbrock Performer intake, stock hood and no BL. It's tight but can definitely work, air cleaner/filter choice is key.
Things got really tight for me when I switched from the Edelbrock carb to the Summit carb.
Good luck.

Cortez - If you have the 1" BL you are good.

The Orange 69 in my garage had the 1" BL and a 351w with a RPM intake under the stock hood. 13" Ford Racing Drop Base air cleaner. It may have had a thinner filter???

Excellent input guys - now I can order the stock hood and know that I won't have to change direction later. Thanks all.
