I have a 302 with AODE 4ro70 trans. I am trying to install the advance adapter for the Dana 20 transfer case. I have everything assembled per the instructions but for some reason cannot complete the assembly due to the issue shown in the pictures. Why can i not fully seat the adapter to the out put shaft?
Any advice is greatly appreciated...
Thanks
Zac

You have to shorten the trans output shaft if you are using the ZF5 adapter. Saw or grinder. I forget exactly what to take off, give me a sec.

The spec. is .325" of stick out length. That's how much output shaft can stick out past the tail housing. Cut it off with a cut-off wheel, then clean it up with a flap disc.

And yes, it was originally in a 2wd 96 explorer. I had Coleman Taylor rebuild the rans and install the 4wd shaft.
Thanks

Stuck Again???

Guys

I really appreciate your help earlier and have managed to cut the output shaft down by 1/2". Now my problem is the that the bolt pattern on the housing (six hole pattern) matches the bolt pattern that bolts the "circular ring" to the transfer case? What am I missing?
Please be patient with me, I am new to all this...
Thanks
Zac

There were studs included in my kit that thread into the TC and then through the index ring and the tailshaft housing. Nuts and lock washers hold everything together.

I only have two studs, is this what you had? I guess the other 4 places are for the holding the ring to the TC with the allen head bolts?
Thanks
