• Be EXTREMELY cautious if someone offers to buy your Bronco for more than your asking price and sight unseen. ESPECIALLY if the buyer is overseas. It's probably a scam.

So I found a 76' while digging around in old craigslist around Texas. I emailed the seller and since I have never purchased a vehicle sight unseen I was worried this might not be legit. I am going to transpose the email chain thus far - can someone let me know if this looks legit?

Me - Is the truck still for sale.

Respose - The car is still for sale. It runs great, no problems with it. The a/c works. I am selling it because I have no use for it until December. Currently I am in the army and my current location is Ft. Lauderdale, Florida navy station. In two weeks I will fly out to Iraq and I will remain there until the 1st of December. The vehicle's price is $5700 (I know it's really cheap but we need cash money for a new house downpayment and during this financial crisis you can't sell anything for it's real value). My work here is highly confidential so I can use the phone only for a family emergency.

I am from TX as you can see from my ad but since I'll be gone for a couple of months, the car is located at my property in St. Paul/MN, garage kept. We are willing to pay the shipping and handling fees and the total for the car, including shipping, will remain the asking price. The delivery will take from 3 to 5 days to arrive at your doorstep, depending on your current location and I already found a local shipping company which is not so expensive for shipping within the US. My wife will take care of the shipment and of the paperwork. I have the clear title.

Me - Hey - thanks for what you are doing for the country - it is admirable. I used to live in Duluth, MN so I have a good amount of friends in Minneapolis. I would like to get someone to take a look at the truck for me, maybe take it for a spin around the block. Let me know if this would be possible and I will get someone to make it happen on my end for me. I just need about 48 hours notice.

Response - Unfortunately, I cannot ask my wife to meet a complete stranger and handle the transaction for me. I had several offers of this kind, and refused all of them. I would prefer to arrange the delivery to your current location, because I will have to draw you a map so you can find my place in the first place, and second, I`m in the army, my wife is all alone at our place, and I`m not comfortable with the idea of sending someone there to meet her and close the transaction. I would like the deal to be handled by professionals so I intend to hire a well known third party company to secure the transaction since I will have to deliver the car to your location and leave it in your custody for 5 days. Let me know if this works for you and I will tell you more about the whole process

Me - I understand your concern, however handing over $5700 without having physical access to the vehicle just isn't a smart business decision. Should you be able to secure it in another location to be seen I would be more than happy to have someone go to an off-site location to view the vehicle. If not I understand. Good luck with your sale, and stay safe.

Response - Here is what I had in mind. Because we cannot meet in person, I suggest using a well known third party as a supervisor for this transaction. The transaction will go straight through Trader Publishing company (www.traderpublishing-us.com). They will be our middle man. For more information about how they can handle the transaction please e-mail them at: traderpublishing.inc@usa.com.

The steps of the transaction are:
1. I will start the transaction which will fall under the Business Purchase Protection program, managed by Trader Publishing, and they will send you an e-mail confirmation with the payment and delivery instructions(a deposit will be requested).
2. You send the deposit to Trader Publishing.
3. The car will be delivered to your location (shipping included in the price). A tracking number of the shipment will also be provided so you can check anytime you want.
4. You will receive the car in 48-72 hours, depending on your current location, and you will have a 5 days inspection period to test it.
5. If the car is what you expected Trader Publishing will forward the first payment to me and you will have to send me the rest of the money. If not, they will fully refund you at your request and they will send the car back on my expense. I know the condition of my car, and you will be very satisfied, I am pretty sure about this.
You can also find more info regarding how Trader Publishing Company can handle a transaction by going to:

Let me know if I can get things started.

I'm in MN, tell him I want it delivered to my car trailer outside his garage.

Scam-o-rama. Notice how they keep calling it a car. They probably use those same words with every scam. Anytime they say shipping is included in the price on a vehicle, it's most likely a scam.

Uber scam.

I am in the Army myself and it really burns my ass when people portray themselves as service members then pull something like this. I know you have passed on this deal and good for you but I must comment that being in the Army, I have a little experience in dealing with "confidential work." That is just an excuse so you cannot call him and it is total BS. Tell him you want to know where in Iraq he is going and when he gets here, let me know and I will pay him a visit!

I just walked away from a wire transfer to this same guy for a 1965 Mustang. Exact same email chain.
