what transfer case is in the above. It is a four speed, is that the np435? I dont know if it has tilt or not but i doubt it with a four speed. It has been sitting a while and the last time i asked they wanted 500.00 (too much). I am going back soon is anybody in my area interested in some of the parts? If it is a np205 t/c i would like to get it. I dont need anything from the axles or transmission.

More than likely it is a NP205, especially if the truck is an original 4-speed .

Yes it should be the 205 unless someone changed it, there were a very few that were put out with the full time 203 t-case, I havn't seen the 203 on a manuel tranny in a Ford, if the truck has manuel locking hubs it should be the 205. The trannies I have seen in the 78 - 79's were the 435's

Should be the NP205. Check the front Dana 44 hubs; if they are manual hubs, then the NP205 (part-time) transfer case should be there. Doc

If it's a factory manual trans, it's an NP205. NP205's came behind both autos and manuals. NP203's only came behind auto trannies. Front hub locks aren't a good indicator. NP203's had an available part time conversion kit that included manual hubs. The trans could be an NP435 or a T18. If it's a 78, the column is not tilt. Tilt manual columns weren't introduced until 79.

Might not be the NP435. I have seen a lot of T-18's in this area. Not sure if the fact that it is a 4x4 vs a 2wd will make a difference. In other words, not sure if they put the T-18 in the 4x4.

They used both trannies in 4x4 applications. On all the 78/79's I've owned (a couple dozen over the years) it was a 60/40 split T18/NP435 respectively.

A 435 will have an aluminum top cover and NP cast in the side of the case.
