84 or 85 Mustang Serpentine Setup?

Hi all,

Just picked up a 73. Kinda my dream since being a teen (i'm a 40 something now). Anyhow, here's the first of many questions I'm sure I'll have as I ponder next steps. I did a search and read about explorer serpentine conversions, just wondering if anyone has done a 84 or 85 mustang serpentine conversion. The advantage would be the timing cover has a provision for a mechanical fuel pump those years. Is the length an issue for that. I'm assuming the advantage of the explorer setup is the compactness.

Thanks for any insights.

You are correct, compactness.
The 84-85 would require you to get creative with the radiator fan ( flex fan no clutch)or radiator mounting (cut core support and move forward).

best option is going EFI

Actually the carbed 85 is the same as the later years, just has the fuel pump boss. Some 86-87 5.0's still had the boss, it just wasn't punched. The 84 setup has a diff tensioner and the brackets are slightly diff. I have the 84 on my trail rig.
