AFR heads

I unexpectedly sold my Tiger. I have a set of AFR 165 renegade heads that I was going use on that car that I did not sell with the car. Do these heads work well on a 302 Roller motor in a Bronco? It is a fresh stock build on an 87 engine.
Any additions or changes you would make to the stock shortblock? Are the 1.7 roller rockers necessary? It won't be seeing over 5,000 RPM
Thanks for you opinions.

The 165s would be perfect. My cylinder Head of choice for 302/5.0. (185s for 351w)

What CCs are the stock heads? AFR heads may change the Compression Ratio.

The 1.7 Ratio rockers are NOT Needed but will add a little lift to the stock Cam.

All things considered, I would install the AFR 165 Heads with the 1.7 Rockers. Especially if you already have them.

Yeah, and 302 with some 165 series head on it is going to scream. You may want more cam to take advantage of those CFM's...

AFR Renegade build for a Fox.

MM&FF AFR dyno

I didn't catch the elevation of the drag strip, but my Fox with the 300hp edel package ran 12.501 @ 109 with a 3.55 gear and clutch fan as well. I think the Cobra intake is holding the test car back.

Are you running carbed?

You should be a good all around engine with those heads even on a stock rebuild. The stock 5.0 cam is capible of close 400 hp with the right parts to go with it. I probably wouldnt run the 1.7 rockers just because they are rumored to cause issues with stock lifters but since your really not using the engine for hi RPM use they will give you a little gain if you do use them.
I run TFS heads on a miled 302 in my bronco and it runs great. I may have lost a little low RPM torque with them but I cant tell.

I run the AFR 165's with a custom cam (very mild) from Comp and a Quick Fuel 680 SS carb. Tons of bottom end and made power all the way to 6000 rpm on the dyno. Great heads for a 302, you'll never regret it.
