Most beadlocks are not DOT approved and typically not the best for street use- they are hard to balance and I have seen issues of the bolts backing off or coming loose.

For an occasional weekend warrior and full time DD, I would recommend staying away from beadlocks unless they are Walker Evans or another DOT approved wheel.

I've been running allied wheels for years. Link doesn't work so not sure which ones your looking at, the QC on the steel wheels is not quite as good as the aluminum Raceline's (Allied). I run the aluminum ones with no weights on 37's and have no issues with vibrations, I drive about 10,000 miles a year on the street and beat on it hard off road. As for DOT approved, unless your in commifornia or oregon its not an issue, all the wheel has to have is a weight rating and federally your good to go. Just get in the habit of checking the bolts, although I have never found a loose or broken one in 8 years and am on my 3rd set of tires.

I have been running steel Allied beadlocks since 2009 with 37" IROKs and airsoft pellets in each one. Absolutely no problems, as soon as the tires heat up on the hwy it drives and rides smooth. I bent the inside of the right front a few years ago slamming down on a rock, we took it off on the trail, beat it back straight with a hammer, put air back in and it's still going.

I've had Allied beadlocks on a couple different rigs. They are a good, inexpensive beadlock. Nothing too fancy and the beadlock rings are little thin, I've bent one pretty good. But they are steel and some time with a hammer it was back to new.

They center the tire really well too which helps in driveability.

DOT approval and SAE standard certification are not as much legal issues but liability issues. Have an accident caused by a blowout- related to the rim or not, and the insurance company and any decent lawyer will climb all over the DOT/SAE approvals. Having worked in the auto industry- I have seen suits won or lost for much more frivolous reasons.

I never looked into it, but had a state trooper in VA tell me something about two piece wheels being illegal in VA for passenger cars... for what its worth.

Thanks for all the input, not sure if I want to worry about bead locks loosening up on the street. Maybe I should just paint my steel wheels and maybe try the weld on rock rings.
