aluminum radiator and electric fan

has anyone setup their bronco with an aluminum radiator and electric fan? I am planning this and have the parts but they don't seem to want to fit. I want to run the electric fan as a puller and have removed the stoch fan. there still is not enough room. I thought about cutting into the body to move the radiator forward towards the grill but don't know how this would affect the bronco structurally. Has anyone here done this type of thing to their broncos? how did it work? fit? what did you do? help!!!

thanks

You are going to hear a lot about the debate between fixed fan and electric. For some, electric works. Others have had nothing but problems.

First of all, exactly what fan are you running? You have to make sure it is pulling at least 2400 cfm (give or take). A shroud is very important.

Which fan is it? I think it would be a whole lot easier to use a different fan then to cut the whole core support, and would probably be a whole lot cheaper in the end.

Here is a link to how I did mine, and if you do a search, you will find more information then you can shake a stick at:

what type of fans are you using on that setup. what is the size of the radiator?

Here is a huge thread I wrote about my setup.. Like I said, the biggest problem is getting enough CFM, which is hard to do with the second biggest problem: space.

The fans are 12" Proforms, and the radiator is a drop in unit from Ron Davis. (stock 4-core size).

Do you know how much CFM that 18" fan moves? Like I said, if it isn't over about 2400cfm, you are probably just wasting time. You might consider selling it and looking at two smaller fans, or a fan that will fit (like the SPAL).

If the pictures don't work, they are all on my site (the first link). Angelfire likes to be awnry sometimes.

I hope that this might give you another alternatives. I am running Howe's Aluminum Radiator and Flex-a-lite's Black Magic Fan. The fan pulls 2800 cfm. It's a little deep, but if you don't mind fabbing your own radiator mounts you can move the radiator a 1/2 inch forward and the fan fits without any problems. Buddies of mine have also moved the radiator supports to the other side of the core. Stock brackets just welded on the front of the core. I hope this helps you.

I use the Black Magic for the Windsor in my '67 Mustang and it has always worked very well. I really like the CFM and the amount of radiator core area utilized by the fan with the REAL shroud that it comes with. ;D

I just installed a Griffin twin core radiator and electric fan setup in my EB. The radiator over cools the motor now. The fan comes on at 195 and keeps the engine there or below. At highway speeds, the temp. does rise above 180. I will have to modify the air flow for winter use. The radiator is approx. 15.5 " X 27" long. I had to remove the stock mounts and weld the bottom ones to the core support. I made new top mounts using the old mounts and moving the supports. The fan is from my local parts store, a pretty common one, as I have seen many of them. I am not using a shroud, as it would not make any difference, since the fan is attached directly to the radiator, using the plastic clips supplied. I made this modification to allow me to mount my winch under the grill and radiator, giving me alot more approach angle in front of my tires.

I run a Be Cool Aluminum Radiator (1" rows 2 core from Wildhorses) and a 7 blade stainless flex fan (from Tom's) and have run the trails in 90 degree weather with no problems. I tried a elc fan first but I never could the keep the temp down as far.
