ANTENNA LOCATION MEASUREMENTS

I want to install an antenna in my '72 on the driver's side that doesn't holes in the fender and kick panel. From searching throughout this forum, I got the fender hole diameter at 1.187" that is 6' from the rear of the fender and 1 1/2" from the inner side of the fender, CHECK.

Question: what is the hole size in the kick panel for the antenna cable and more importantly, what are the location measurements?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The hole size is slightly larger than the cable connector - probably about the same as the factory hole on the other side. The location is wherever you want - no one is ever gonna measure that hole's position, and tell you it's wrong. But again: check the other side for the factory hole's position.

Thanks Steve83. That works for me. I don't have the kick panel holes bc they were replaced as well as the fenders with no holes.

How about the antenna mounting hole location? A little more difficult to drill since the fender is on and I'll be from the inside and need to get the correct location.

Looking up into the fender you will see the back fender bolt near the door post. Measure down 3.75 inches from where that bolt comes out, and 3.75 inches from the door post.
Measuring from the inside, run a tape measure or ruler between the dash and the door post level with the fuel selector switch and go back 8 inches from the front of the dash. That’s where the hole is on my ‘77. It’s just big enough to get the cable thru…

Look at your antenna, and see where its bezel fits best on the outside, since that's what really matters. Use that to find the center, and cut the hole TOO SMALL at first so you can slowly enlarge it until the antenna base barely fits through, leaving no visible hole under the seal.

Thanks Slowleak, I'll give that a try. I have the info I need to install an antenna.

I say this case is closed.

Thanks again

When I changed fenders on my previous EB, rather than fool around with getting the antenna in the right place, I got a different style that had a spring on the base and mounted it on the hood in front of the fresh air intake. Easy peasy!

A picture being worth a thousand words, maybe this might help for the antenna location.
