Hey guys, I'm just curious if anyone has run the hummer H1 surplus military goodyears. I heard that they are fine for the street, dirt and rocks but airing them down doesn't work well with these tires? Well, I can't afford to pay the 350 to 400 per tire right now, so I'm budgeting with these tires till I can save up for some 17" rims and 37" irocs. Also I am going to run the rockstomper DIY beadlocks so I'm wondering if this will help when I air down?

I run the hummer tires, they are heavy, but for $100 a tire, its a great deal. I wheel up iin mountains. no problems. wheels may be hard to balance otherwise they are fine.

Not sure about how the tires perform but a guy on Pirate has them for $75 each and $150 shipping for 4.

For wheeling, I would keep my eye out for a used set of Irok's or such. Check Craig's List or any other sale forums, Jamey found his 39.5 Irok's on CL and paid $800 for the set of them. They were like new, you might have to look a while but you'll find something out there. I don't think the surplus tires will flex at all like you'll want. I have heard they are good wearing on the street.

Exactly. A guy that shows up at Big Dogs events quite regularly to rock crawl has a very heavy rig on Rockwell axles. He runs zero..yes zero..air pressure in the surplus Michelins (albeit the much large ones, not the 37s). In his extreme example of super-heavy rig and very well locked tires on the rims..the tires do flex 'sorta OK'...;)

For the price a set of H1's with the 36's are hard to beat. Do they flex like a set of Iroks on the rocks, nope, but they will allow you to have some fun v/s setting at home :) The 37's are radials, I have a couple as spares because they are closer to my 39.5" Boggers. I ran the grooved 36's for a while until I lucked into my boggers for the 16.5 wheels, and they are inner and outer bead locked. Paid $35 each for the wheel/tire/runflat, $50 each for new plate centers, and $35 each for rock rings.
