AOD auto trans question

The previous owner installed an AOD transmission and it appears he used the dipstick and tube that came with the transmission, it doesn’t work very well where it’s at and is in the way of everything in that area. It’s a pain to change the spark plugs or check the engone oil or do anything in that area. Is there something that others have used that they are happy with that doesn’t break the bank?

So, @ksagis and I have just wrapped up some exhausting work trying to determine what's right, what works, what doesn't.

He and I both have the one by Allstar:

If I were to buy a new dipstick, I'd buy this one:

And when you do, verify that FULL HOT, is just barely above the pan gasket mating surface. If it's not, make a line there for full hot. The Allstar is WAY wrong but it does fit nicely. This one Might be the same fit and better marks. The only other one that might be good is from Performance Automatics but is $150.

Both ba123 and I likely are OCD (OCD being a compliment) and he is not exaggerating at all on how deep we went on this.

It was hard to believe the Allstar hardware we got was as far off as it seems to be. All objective evidence says it’s roughly 0.600” too high (and thats for a fully seated dipstick tube)

I’m draining fluid and remarking my Allstar stick this weekend.

P.S. if anybody from All Star is on this forum, I’ve love to hear from them.

P.P.S. Tranny dipstick is on passenger side and you mention check engine oil. My oil dipstick is on drivers side and surprised the tranny dipstick prevents access to spark plugs

I used a Lokar dipstick to relocate mine.
Yeah, I did that too and then tossed it in a box somewhere after trying to fill a tranny with it.

Looks nice, but honestly sucks for everything else.

Dipstick with a tube is what you need.

It sounds like it didn’t work as well as you thought did you have to modify it to get it to work? Do you have any pictures of your install it would sure help.
Thanks for the reply.

It works fine mechanically, its just marked at wrong height (at least for the 4 different article ba123 and I had in hand). And it seemed like build to build variation was quite a bit more than I’d expect.

Use the quote above “verify that FULL HOT, is just barely above the pan gasket mating surface” and you’ll be fine
