Are the $100 shocks that much better than the $32 shocks?

The higher you get in shock absorber price the greater the tendancy for the shock absorber to be rebuildable, serviceable, have replacement parts, upgrades and be made of higher quality materials and machining.

Larger diameter shock absorbers will wistand heavier vehicles and more abuse. So will having multiple shock absorbers per tire. Gas-charged shock absorbers have more endurance.

Do you want three or four less expensive shock absorbers per tire or do you want one or two more expensive shock absorbers per tire?

I am going to get four shock absorbers with the valving I want and the length I want and choose low-buck there after. When they are blown I will scrap them. If I find that replacing them becomes an inconvenience then I will investigatge a longer lasting shock absorber for my application.

I am going to break low buck parts before buying big-bucks parts.

In my experience yes, with the 7100 bilstiens I could run down a fast road of whoop de doos and not bottom out. If I touched the bump stop is came on smooth and predictable.
With the other shocks I used, they would get super hot in the first 1/4 mile and then bottom out constantly. If you double up the cheap shocks, it feels like someone it kicking you in the back when you drive.

I replaced the shocks on a jeep XJ I used to have with 5100s, the ride was much smoother, and the wheel hop that it had in the sand went away.

Now if you just drive on the street, you may not notice a big difference, but If you go fast where its not smooth, you will.

Im running WH 5.5 front springs and chevy 63" rears. I dont do much high speed offroading. 50% street 45% rocks 5% mudd. The front end is alittle on the heavy side with a winch and a cummins motor.

Thanks for the quick response

In the shock world what you pay is what you get really does apply! Of course there are upper limits unless you plan on doing the Baja 1000.

The RIGHT $100 shocks will be what you want. I'm not suggesting any particular option but something with a lot heavier valving in the front because of the weight.

I tried Bilstein 5100s, but had to change to 7100s to control the front with a heavy bumper and winch. Lee told me I needed 7100 to start, but I tried to save some money. I was wrong.

Modern F250 front shock mounts work well for the Bilstein's. Good prices and easily available at your Ford dealer. Cut off old tower and weld on new ones to desired height

Dont think youll get more travel but you can run a longer shock for when you do increase your travel
