Looking to confirm if the circled notch is the selector for the geared teeth. I installed a 35 tooth speedometer gear just want to make sure I’m dialed in correctly.

In addition will the VSS from the Dakota Digital VHX function accordingly with the Atlas 2? 833AA6E8-7A9C-47FB-8596-D412538DDCD8.jpeg 1005B06C-D6AA-4803-A524-F013DBA000CB.jpeg

The VSS adapter will work fine. As for the installation, for many decades, same Speedo design Chrysler has used since the 60’s, I use a small screw driver to turn the Speedo gear and check that it is engaged. then rotate the housing using the retainer as a tool until it won’t turn further then back up until the retainer fits. If in doubt here’s a YouTube Link

Not all applications are clocked the same. The output gear housing is eccentric to accommodate different diameters of gears. with the different clocking is why I use the screw driver to verify engagement of the gears and rotate the housing to the deepest possible engagement that allows the retainer to properly engage the housing. I believe the addition of the gear tooth numbers to the housing creates more confusion that there is something to align, when there may or may not be.
