I just spoke with Gordon and placed my order for one of his custom family cages. He suggested I come on here and ask you guys what options you chose for yours that you're happy with or you'd avoid if you did it over. Any pics would be really appreciated too.

I also went ahead and ordered a standard bumper with a bully bar if you have any thoughts on those. Thanks!

Did you talk to Gorgon about his Bailie Bilt bumpers?

yeah...I ordered a Bailie Bilt plate front bumper with a bully bar on it. I held off on getting a rear bumper, but kinda wish i just got them both. I think it'll look really great either way. I just have to decide what I want in the way of grab bars, dash bar, etc. on the cage.

Weigh the options of the ones that velcro around the bar, or having him add one that points inwards...

You don't want to be reaching "out" of the vehicle if you ever put it on the side,e tc...

Dave is right, a dash bar is good but the grab bars I have are velcro and can be removed or moved. Something to think about. Another thing to think about is 5 point harness loops.

I love the cage he built a couple years ago with the double upright's behind the rear seat.....I don't have a picture of it...but, it belonged to "BigOne". It was white and was in a green bronco.

BigOne's Bailie Bilt cage just sold recently on the boards here. I remember seeing that and it's the same as the one I'm getting.

Good suggestions on the velcro grabs and 5-point harness loops. I'd like to have a belt system with 3-points standard but the ability to add the other side when off road. Does something like that exist? I am going to ask Gordon about belt anchor points for at least a 3-point. Thanks for that!

So you guys think the dash bar is a good addition? I'm a bit on the fence with that. Gordon said it can make things feel a little tight, but it's good for passengers and does add rigidity to the cage.

Definitely, gives you a point to hang on to as well if necessary....

Most cages I see have the Dash bar in it......

hahah...good point...things may be going downhill fast if i'm holding on to the dash bar instead of the wheel!

i'll probably go with it. I may lose the dash pad too to get more room. I kinda like the look of no pad.

I got the custom family and love it. I opted for the dash bar, A-pillar grab handles, and B&C pillar seatbelt attachments. Gordon was great to work with and built the cage very quickly. He called and we went over the details before he began building it. The only option I did not get was the harness hoops behind the front seats.
I spoke with Gordon after I received the cage and discussed the only problem I had...which was not an issue with him. It was an issue with the shipper. Make sure the to coordinate the shipping date and pick-up times at the hub. The closest one to my address is not open 7 days a week. If I could not have made it down there that day it came (Friday) I would have been hit with a VERY high storage rate.
The only thing I would have changed, which I spoke with Gordon about, was the B-pillar seat belt mounting plate. The plate was welded in the middle of the bars. My seat belt upper mounting point is triangular and would not fit between the bars without a spacer. I would have had the plate mounted on the inside edge of the tubes...I hope that makes sense to you.
Overall Gordon is an outstanding person and fabricator. I think you will be happy with his products.
