I put the balancer on and does is seem to be far enough back? I hit with my impact and the bolt doesn't move so I think its good...but i guess I will really find out when I try to slign the belts. Second when breaking in a new cam I fire up the engine, quickly set the timeing and then run at 2000rpms for 15 mins or so right?

When I break mine in I set the timing with no advance. I read that somewhere long ago and have had good luck with break-ins.

The dampner looks good where it is. And you want to go from about 2000-2500 on the break-in. I varied mine on all the engines I've built and it worked very well. The timing thing is also up to you, I would just get it fairly close to 0-8 degrees base as the mechanical advance should start kicking in around 2000 in stock distributor.

Ok well bad weather yeaterday and the need to study today made me cut it short...all i have to do is prime with an old gearless dist (run it counter clockwise right?), pop on the vavle covers, pulleys and belts, carb and wire it up...then she is ready to rumble. With tomorrow being V-day :-* I am looking at having it broke in by tuesday afternoon!

I have seen some roller timing chains that are about .100" thicker than stock. The crank sprocket is also .100" thicker which makes the balancer stick forward a bit too far. I noticed the problem on mine after an overhaul. My pulleys didn't line up. I modified the crank sprocket. A friend has run his that way for years with v belts without a problem.
