Best Maintenance Manual 69 Bronco?

Hi all,
I am new to the forum. I just picked up my first Early Bronco ;D, its a 69 U15 with the 170 6 cyl. I have always wanted one and finally got the opportunity. It needs a lot of work and I plan a slow restoration over the next couple years. I have limited experience with this type vehicle so all the help I can get is much appreciated!!! My first goal is to get to a driveable state. What is the best and most detailed service/maintenance manual available? As I picked it up there is no front glass, however it came with a brand new in the bag front glass rubber seal. I will have to purchase the new glass, any suggested retailers? Any suggestions on installation with or without sealer? There is also a missing brake line originating at the master cylinder that needs to be replaced and brake system bled and adjusted. The original brake line looks as though it had a flexible section. I would like to replace it with a stainless steel line and bend and cut to fit. The fuel tank has been removed but came with a new mts tank sitting in the back not installed. The new fuel tank has a filler, vent, sending unit (2 post), and supply. I can't find the old vent line, how shall I fab a new one? routing? check valve? canister? Also no sending unit wire attachment to be found. There is a new factory replacement 2 bbl carb that appears to have only the throttle linkeage attached, but possibly missing the choke cable and another? Not sure what its for or where to attach. I do have pictures but don't know how to attach to this thread.

First off welcome to the forum. You will soon be addicted and your wife will tell you to quit with your bronco porn! I would recommend becoming a contributer for $12 to help us keep the knowledge flowing! Its also nice if you put where your from so the brothers can help you with parts.

Thats alot of questions to be asked in one sentence:p

Lets start with the glass. Shipping kills any chance of i deal i believe. Some guys get measurements and have a local company cut it for you, but i have heard some frames being a bit different and the glass getting cut wrong? Not sure exactly. Installation with the rubber seal should be a cinch and might be a good first project to tackle yourself. I have watched a few vids of the guys (either from JBG or WH) doing the rope install trick. Ill look for the vids for you. Myself i did a more up to date install and used urethane glue and skipped the whole rubber seal. Its up to you. here is my thread about it.....

The brake line is simple...all the way to the bottom of this page (master cyl lines 66-75)

Not sure exactly what your asking for on the gas tank. Installation should be simple. As for the plug....

Some carbs use a choke cable but some have auto choke. My 68 came with the cable but the 2100 carb i have uses a stove tube instead of the cable.

As far as posting pictures...thats where your $12 comes in handy!

Pics are of how the choke tubes run. Find out if your carb uses that system or the manual system.

Cruise Ebay and Craigslist for an original set of Ford truck manuals they are the best. If none there then go for something like Chiltons. They are a little less detailed but should do the trick. I found a complete set of originals for our 1970 for less than 75$. Welcome to the insanity.

The Ford shop manuals are generally much more detailed and helpful than a Chilton or Haynes manual (although, I have those as well as they are what I first bought 15+ years ago before I found the Ford manual set, but rarely ever use them now).

There are original Bronco service manuals available. But, unless you're going for an original restoration, the modifications you do will make the Ford service manual obsolete. I'd go with a Chiltons or Haynes manual for the basics.

Any glass shop can cut you a windshield, since the glass is flat. Might want to have them do the install, but as mentioned, the install isn't all that hard. Much easier with two people. Sealer is not supposed to be necessary...

Stainless lines will just make more work. I've had a couple sections of stainless line but it's not worth the hastle. I don't have them any more... Just get some 3/16 brake line from the local box auto parts store, a good (decent) bender and a flaring tool capable of making the double flares necessary for brake lines. I use a flaring tool I got from Harbor Freight and it works fine.

There is no tank vent on a 69. The tank is vented through the gas cap. There is a check valve in the cap so vapor doesn't come out, but will allow air in the tank to replace the used fuel. The sending unit wiring harness should have been routed on the inside of the drivers frame rail...

The "other" is probably the heater control cable. Supposed to attach to the heater control valve, to control the temperature. If you don't have that valve and want to replace it, only buy the composite ones. The metal ones will fail in about 2 years.

Thanks everyone for the good info! I went with regular 3/16 steel lines from auto zone. Bent and double flared using the flaring kit from napa. Just installed this evening. Next will be trying to remove the rusted bleeder valves. Tomorrow after work I will get started on the fuel tank and lines. I removed the original filler tube still attached to the body and discovered as you said the vent line is integrated. I followed the line down the inside of the frame rail (driver side) to the mechanical non vacuum fuel pump. Could not find any filter so I plan to add an in-line with the new fuel line. Also I found the sending unit harness but unsure which post on the sending unit goes with each one as there are no labels or installation instructions with the new tank. I will probably have someone local cut and install the glass. Still on the hunt for a manual, thanks for the direction. I will start to research the heater control valves as well. Thanks again for the help. After I find the contributor link I will add pictures.

Thanks for the manual link, I just ordered them. Standard shipping with delivery date prior to the end of the month. I media blasted the fill tube/vent and primed. Also removed the right rear tire/wheel and brake bleeder valve. Was not too bad, I have been soaking for 3 days with WD40. I am going to pull the other three valves off and replace before bleeding. I also need to get some flex fuel lines to replace the old ones. Is there a pos/neg post on the 2 post MTS fuel transducer or are they interchangeable for indicator wire attachment? I see no label? I am going to change the engine oil, what is the oil quantity? 1969 170cid 6 cyl. Thanks again guys!
