This has come up before, but I wanted to remind people since apparently members here have been targeted recently.

Be EXTREMELY cautious if someone offers to buy your Bronco for more than your asking price and sight unseen. ESPECIALLY if the buyer is overseas. It's probably a scam.

Here's how it works...

They send you a cashiers check for the sale amount plus extra to pay their friend for shipping (or customs or processing, etc.). So say you're selling for $7,000. They'll send you a cashiers check for $10,000. They send you the check. You cash it and wait a couple days for it to clear. The friend comes and picks up the truck and the extra $3,000 for shipping. A week later your bank calls and says, "Oops, the check was a fraud and didn't actually clear. Sorry!" They pull the money back out of your account.

Doh!!! You're now out 1 truck and $3,000. :'(

I'm refreshing this old post to add some new warnings.

Be very cautious of brand new members contacting you trying to sell you a part.

Warning signs:
  1. Brand new member with few to no posts
  2. Gives you the email address of a "friend" who just happens to have the exact part you're looking for at a good price.
  3. When you contact the person they want you to use Paypal "friends & family" or Zelle or Venmo so "they don't have to pay a transaction fee".
  4. You send the money, they never send the part and you never hear from them again.
Paypal "Friends and Family" or Zelle or Venmo DO NOT offer any buyer protection. They are only supposed to be used to pay people you already know and trust (ie. "friends and family") Once you send money using those services the money is gone. The payment company will not help, even if you were clearly scammed.

Paypal "Goods and Services" does offer buyer protection. Venmo now offers it too if you "turn on for purchases" when you pay. They both charge a fee (~2% or 3%) for this protection. The scammer will say they don't want to use these payment methods because they want to save on the fee, but it's really because they don't want you to be protected. If you really want the part tell the seller you'll pay the few extra bucks for the fee. If they decline then you know it's a scam.

Asked for anyone that had a source for fuel valve decals. Was contacted on my email account which was not in the want ad by Jack Jones jonesjack@gmail.com. He offered to sell them to me but wanted Zelle or cash for payment. Neither has any recourse if seller doesn't ship. I insisted on PayPal but he demanded Friends and family which also has no recourse. He gave me 2 different pypal addresses neither which worked because I wanted to pay for goods. He is a scammer.

I was contacted by someone who supposedly has the parts I’m looking for. He claims to own a shop in Virginia called Hyland Auto Parts. I asked if he was a member of the forum and he stated in text that he’s a private seller. Sent pictures of the parts and claims that his wife works for FedEx and can get parts shipped reasonably as soon as payment through Zelle or Apple Pay has been completed.

Anyone have any experience with this??

He texted you? Did you post your phone number here? If so, then anyone on the internet has access to it since posts here are public (ie. not members only)

Sounds fishy to me. Remember Zelle has no buyer protection, so once you transfer funds there's no way to get a refund and the seller can easily disappear.
