Body mount at firewall

Replacing floors on both sides. I have the old floors out and everything cleaned, epoxied, and ready to weld in new floors. I noticed that inside the body cross member where the body bolt goes through the floor, passes through the cross member, and into the frame, that there appears an issue.

Inside the cross member where the body bolt goes through there is a welded on ring about 5/16” tall. (See pic). However, the top of it is at least 1/4” below the level height of where the floor spot welds to the crossmember. While the floor has a slight downward indent ring where the body bolt goes through, it does not go down 1/4” to the top edge of the ring.

So it appears the body bolt will either have to bend the floor pan down to the top of the ring, or not be very tight. One option would be to add washers on top of the ring inside the crossmember to bring it up to the floor pan level.

I took a set of shallow well sockets and got one that was as big as the dent on the bottom of sheet metal and another socket that would fit inside the larger socket and put them together over the sheet metal hole and put a bolt and nut through them and tightened them down and drew the indent down until it was deep enough to touch the ring.

I refurbished these floor supports to use on a glass tub installation, welded in some 4" flat stock and drilled out the hole for the mount. 20200418_194802.jpg

Sounds like you have at least a couple ideas for the mounting hole and spacer. On another note if you are not going to be using a aux fuel tank you can weld up the holes for the strap mounts. Those holes make the floor brace weak and the floor will typically bend at that point.

At least as of now I was planning on keeping the aux tank based on the 13 gallon main tank being so small. I like the flat stock idea, I'll do that for sure. Easy upgrade.
