Hey, how can I tell if I have the right Chevy DANA 44 spindles for the Chevy disc brakes set up? The ones I have or from a 77 Chevy 1/2 4x4 ton that the manufacture date on the truck was 11/76. How do I know if they are right?
Thanks G.P.

check the inner bearing diameter. it should be the same diameter as your ford spindle, i can't remember the size.

go to the parts house and try the inner bearing for an early bronco disc spindle if you do not have dial calipers to measure with

Hey this is what I found out about the inner spindle bearing. My spindle has a B-2110 Torrington bearing. And that bearing fits a DANA spindle from a 1972 -1979 GM trucks K5 - K25 with DANA 44 front end. Do you think I have the right one then?
Thanks again! Gas Pig

Inner wheel bearing should be the same as the EB, not the spindle bearing.

Have your parts guy look up the torrington p/n for the inner bearing of a 76 Bronco with disks. It should be the same p/n. If not, you have the wrong spindle.
It's the fact that they use the same bearings is what makes the chev conversion possible.

The needle bearing (B2110) on the inside of the spindle rides on outer axle. Your main concern is the large inner wheel bearing that goes between the spindle and the hub on the rotor. It should be the same as your drum brake Bronco. Both larger bearing spindles and small bearing spindles use the same B2110 spindle bearing. 11/76 manufacturing date on the truck means it was an early 1977 model year which should be small bearing unless the PO has upgraded to the large inner bearing spindles. I have seen a large bearing spindle on one side and a large bearing spindle on the other so make sure you check them both. Small bearing spindles were not installed on trucks on the last half on the 1977 model year. What is the exact cutoff date for small bearing spindles is a good question. Check the spindle with a drum brake Bronco inner wheel bearing to make sure you have the right one.

Hey, I took the spindles into work and put the dial gage on the them, this is what I found out. According to the diagram Bronco tech "admin" sent me I have the Chevy big bearing spindles. Most of the measurement were the same except for the inner hub bearing that "72Sport" talked about. The diagram for the small bearing spindle measures 1.785 for the O.D. were the inner hub bearing seats, mine measures 2.00. Also the measurement from the spindle flange to the inner hub bearing step measures 1 3/16 inches on the small Chevy bearing spindles. On mine they measure closer to 1 3/8 inches. Can I get my big bearing spindle turned down to right size? I have two very good friends who are both awesome machinists and would I'm sure do they work do the work for free or for a few "cold ones." Can turning down spindles be done and/or has anyone done this successfully? Thanks for all your help!!! G.P.

yes, you can lathe them down. i've had it done to a few sets of spindles, and never had a problem. it's not really making them weaker, you're just making them the same size as the 1.785" spindles.

take them a copy of that schematic listed earlier and they should be able to program that into their lathe.

Hi and thanks for all the help! I talked to my buddy and said "no problem on turning it down to the correct size." The spindle diagram shows me all the O.D. sizes but it doesn't show me any of the correct length of each steps of the spindle except the 1 3/16 inches from the flange to the first step (were the inner wheel bearing seats). The big bearing Chevy spindle is 1 3/8 so he'll have to take a little off there but what about the rest of the steps? Are they all fine or will they have to change too? Does know and/or have a Chevy small bearing spindle to measure up for me?
Thanks again, G.P.
