Clutch release rod adjustment

I just dismantled my pressure plate and removed the pilot bushing in order to make sure that it fits smoothly onto the NV3550. After a bit of filing, I'm hoping the tranny will fit this time. Anyway, before I took everything apart AGAIN, I had the bellhousing attached and I was trying to get the release rod back into the clutch fork and onto the clutch equalizer bar. No matter how much I pushed or pulled either the clutch fork or the equalizer bar, I couldnt seem to get the release rod back into place. Is there a trick to this? I backed off on the screws on the release rod in the hopes of shortening this but it didnt appear adjustable.

I forgot to mention that I just installed a WH 1" body lift. Will the old release rod work or am I going to need yet another part for this "simple bolt-on" installation?
