Concept Bronco on the back burner

I just got the latest issue of Truck Trends. The editor talked to ford about the Concept Bronco, and they said it was being put on the back burner for now. It seems that it would cost too much to reinforce the Escape platform, and Ford is in no position to create a new platform for just one model. My guess is that Ford would have built a mini-grocery hauler instead of a real truck anyway.

Is it a requirement in Fords renaming department to have a labotomy before you get to help decide what name to reuse??

Come on...Some of these concepts might be good for their intended purpose,,but to name them after a model that was well respected but has nothing in common with is just :-X ,,,,well this is a family show so I'll just say disrepectful.

Did you look at the thing they want to call a Fairlane ??? Jeesshh..
Freekin' french opening doors,,,give us a break... %)

You'd think they'd learn something from the Mustang program..But NOOOOO..

Give these things their own names....Show some respect for the Classics...

Maybe if they based it off the Defender 90 design they could save some development $$ and have a real off road capable vehicle. They probably think the market is too small to move forward on a real truck. I dont think I would ever want one based off a fiesta platform.

You talking about when they wanted to replace the mustang with what became the Ford Probe? My wife had one of them for 11 years, not bad, but not a Mustang.

honestly I think a solid axle new Bronco would sell..........jeep is selling like mad, so if ford did a resto of the bronco like they did with the mustang I think it would be really popular. it might realy give them a good portion of the market.

I am just realy tired of poeple asking me what year that old jeep is........

The article said it would be based on the Escape platform, but they could be wrong. Ford might wake up when Toyauto brings out the FJ Cruiser. It will be based on a shortened 4runner chassis with a solid rear axel, a transfer case, and maybe even a locker. I predict they will sell like hotcakes.

Yeah, especially if it carried the diesel engine, manual transmission, and aluminum body.

Exactly....Just like you said,,not a bad car ,,BUT its NOT a Mustang.

Give it it's own name and let it run.

I would'nt expect a new Bronco to be exactly like our Classics, but I would expect them to be able to be at least as capable as a new TJ.

A roof that removes from the windsheild back , straight axles(D-90 Platform ??) low range in the Transfer case,,you know , just a few of the basics that would make it closer to being a Bronco .

I understand the factory is strangled by lawyers, beancounters, and out of touch advisors. But they obviously overcame all that and produced the Mustang anyways , I don't see why they couldn't do the same with the Bronco.

A platform you could build up on ..resonably. Thats all.

I was down in Costa Rica on vacation over thankgiving and there are thousand of acient rovers with the aluminuim bodies on them still putting around. I think they'll last forever as long as you have a good mechanic to replace all the rest of the vehicle. By the way, never saw a single EB down there, but lots of Defender 90s and 110s. I think the 110s would probably be one of the most awesome 4 door family cars around. Too bad they didn't sell more in the US. The diesel would be way cool also!!

I keep hearing how they don't want to use the "aging" Ranger platform, if it's so old it should be due for a redesign anytime now, why not redesign the Ranger with an eye for using it for the Bronco as well?
