I recently installed a stainless steel twin stick shifter on my J-shift Dana 20 T-case. Everything went pretty smooth as far as installing.

Question is; is there a proper sequence to shift in and out of 4-low and 4-high and back to 2-high ???

The reason I ask is because after I installed it, I checked for proper shifting with the hubs UNLOCKED. Everything was really smooth. When I tried it with the hubs locked on a dirt road, I ran into issues. I some how got the front axle in low-range and was unable to shift the rear axle into low-range, so I had it stuck in both hi and low (NOT GOOD). I couldn't un-lock the front hubs either. Everything was bound up pretty good. After about 10 minutes of working it, I finally got it back into 2-hi without ruining my T-case.

rocking back and forth or rolling a little will help it unbind

yup- I have the J shift but reversing usually helps get the levers moving.

Lol, I did that last weekend. Just make sure you shift the rear first. If you have a brainfart just slowly go in reverse and put the front back in N or H.

yep always shift the rear to hi or low first.. One idea for anti theft is to shift frontinto low and rear into hi.. imagine someone trying steal it.. talk about a bucking bronco.. lol

Or a broken T-case. But I think I would rather deal with a broken T-case than the pile of parts that were left in the bad neighborhood for the cops to impound.

My method;

Shift the front axle to neutral while moving in gear. Stop. Put the trans in neutral (automatic). Shift the rear axle to other range. Put trans back in gear and start rolling. Shift the front axle.

OK., Thanks !!!

So it sounds like it's best to have the front axle in neutral; shift the rear axle into low-range, then follow with the front into low-range.
Going back into 2-hi; shift the front axle back into neutral, then rear axle into hi-range.
