Dash Pad replacement

I am putting in new dash pad. I have read that I have to remove my hardtop and then lean the windshield frame forward. Is there nothing else holding the windshield frame upright but the hardtop bolts? How do windshield frames stay upright when driving with no hardtop? Thanks.

Thanks. I have the bolts in my 1976. I knew there had to be more to it than people were mentioning. Makes sense to me now.

You actually do not have to remove the top.

Unbolt side bolts on Dash that hold windshield. Unbolt the top (Top Front and Sides) and lift up front of top as you push the windshield forward. Only has to clear a couple inches. Probably take 2 people.
