Can somebody with dealer installed A/C post pictures of their air conditioning brackets and pulley system? I am wanting to see if there is another way for mine to run. My belt seems to be slapping around a lot. Thanks, Don

Your '77, with the air injection pump, has an odd bracket for the alternator and air pump. Most of those got installed on the driver side to avoid further congestion. The compressor usually shared the power steering pump belt. That's a bad combination because the power steering pump hates too much belt tension, while the compressor needs it. You need to leave it a bit too loose for a compressor, so it jumps around.

How about a photo?

Thanks for the link Slowleak.

Sure. Your setup looks correct. Where are you noticing the slack?

I always had trouble keeping the radiator hose out of the idler pulley if I got the belt tight enough to stop squealing...

Slowleak. Since you added the sanden compressor do you have any belt squeal?

Not a bit. I think the key to it is finding the right belt.... I use a really fat green one. I think it’s made for a mower...but that Sanden is a lot easier to spin too.

Yup.
I used the industrial green backed belt and it's been better than std v belts for me.

... I used to sell an Idler that could be added .. & You used a flat backed round idler on it.
It pushed the backside of the belt down stopped the bounce of some belts .
It didn't take much tension to stop the slippage .. Now today you may need to fab up you own mount bracket . But I really sure those flat back pulleys can still be bought . If not I'm sure you can buy one at the wrecking yard of old Chrysler . & They use a 99503 bearing . so put a new bearing in a used one.
