Dodge NP435/203?

I am contemplating getting another EB. I did end up selling mine unfortunately.

Regardless, I have been shopping for parts when I came up with the following interesting stuff.

I was looking at a parts Dodge 4x4 truck when I noticed that it was manual transmission and full-time. I know EB's adapt to the NP203 pretty easy out of the Dodge.

What about using the Dodge output shaft and 203 together with the adaptor to the EB 20 on the back? So if I took my 4wd NP435 Ford trans and combined it with the Dodge transmission I could have a factory crawler box basically.

I know Fords used some different patterns etc., but if I could get dirty and combine them that would be fine.

Any thoughts? I need to look the truck over closer to make sure. It is the right year for full time and it does have a full time front axle.

Thank you, ROB

You should be good to go with that swap. I'm pretty sure that there are no real differances internally between 435's except for input and output shaft lenghts and spline counts. You might be able to do your conversion relatively cheap

I assume you meant using only the range-box portion of the 203, mated to the D-20? I was not aware there is an adapter for that combination...
That Dodge 203 is the 'box of choice' for Ford NP-205 doubler setups..I'm building one of those for my '78 Bronc. But the D-20 is a whole different animal.

OK. I was just looking at a reasonable cost way to get the 203 behind my 435. I have not decided yet which transfer case I will use.

The transmission on the Ford may use a different pattern where it comes out than the Dodge. That is what I am not sure about.

I will look into the transmission here in a bit. It is in an old truck at a friends house.

That and my Wildhorses catalog should be here any day and I think they cover some of it in there.

Thanks, ROB

Whatever you do, don't ask about mating a D-20 to a 203 over at Pirate4x4... All you'll get is "don't do it" "It'll break and leave you stranded" "It's not strong enough" "Only use a 205"... etc etc. (ask me how I know!)

I've got a few spare T-cases around, so I'll have my choice between a 203/205 and a 203/D20 when I do it. I'll probably do whichever one looks easiest/cheapest because I'm lazy.. and Cheap.

I know better than to ask most things over there......

Flameage is not fun.

My catalog did not show up today so I will wait and see what it says in it.
