Door hinge repair kit

starting on the Body work, and the first thing I want to tackle is the doors, they sag, the driver more than the passenger. but i figure I fix both and will not risk the paint afterwards.

I was over at the auto-zone and saw some Doorman hinge repair kits, about 1/2 a dozen difference ones for ford.

does any one have a p/n for doorman, once I get them, is it as easy as grinding the old ones off, insert the new ones, any tips are appreciated.

I used the kit from Wild Horses. My friend let me use his drill press to drill out for the new bushing. Then I used a vice to press in the new pins. Did this about eight years ago and the hinges are still working great.

I knocked my old pins out, and took my new pins & hinges to the machinist to do. First machinist said he would have to special order the reamer, and that would cost me $65 for the part alone. I took them to two other machinists, and the one who finally did it took an eternity, did a shitty job of aligning them, scratched the paint all up (yes, I had them painted before, stupid me), and I generally got screwed.

When I started out, I was all set to use my drill press, until I discovered that the head had a slight wobble to it.

After all of that, I should've just bought new hinges. That's what I will do if I ever restore another one.

I knocked out my old pins and cut off part of the hinge to make the doors removable. Instead of putting in a new pin I used a 5/16" (I believe) bolt. Grade 8 of course, and left enough thread so that a nut could be installed to keep anyone from stealing the doors

Sounds like the turned out exactly how id expect!

Just a heads up....dont waste your time. The parts arnt expensive but it still ant worth the effort. Id just buy new ones. It took a few hours of trying to get them apart, and i never did get 1 of the 5 apart, thank god i had a extra. Then you have to try and drill them out which is impossible to get centered. Then all the time spent blasting and repainting because you trash them gettin the pins out. Then you pound the pins on and mount the doors and find out that the pins arent exactly perfect, and the door binds upon closure. The last step is to take them off and sell them to some sucker as rebuilt hinges (or throw them away) and spend your hard earned money on some stainless steel lift offs!

Long story short....rethink the rebuilding and price out some new ones.

Also after running the Drake lift off hinges i can say that they are beautiful and they make door mounting a one person operation but i cant get one door back on without the bottom bushing falling out all the time. I think id rather have a SS set on non lift off's.

hey i was honest and said they sucked but they were in fact tight and rebuilt! Somebody wanted some for some trail doors or something? He didnt care. I had 5 hinges and some extra pins all for next to free!

I say sucker because i thought they were trash but to some bronco brother they were perfect! One mans trash.......

Reminds me of this pass seat catch hoop i almost threw away. I got PM's from 4 brothers that want that part. I almost tossed it 2 days ago!

do you have a link to the DRAKE hinges?

thanks to all for the input, I will probably just use the 5/16" bolt fix for now and when money allows go with SS but not lift offs, I fear some one might steal my doors.

Damn you... just when I thought I was done spending money (save for the ZF sitting on the side of the house & the lightning efi sitting in a closet), you go & show me something I can totally justify...

Yes it sucks to rebuild your stock hinges but it isn't as bad as they say. Make sure you label the position of each hinge as they are not all the same. The factory had a special tool to bend each hinge to align the doors. The good news is if you keep them in the correct position your door gaps should align well.
