EFI fuel pump/filter location

I started working on my bronco to get it road worthy. Well as I started replacing the brakes and I noticed something strange. The location of the fuel pump and filter doesn't look like it is in an ideal location. It is bolted to the outside of the frame next to the gas tank (see picture). I don't think that the PO used his head when he mounted it. It looks like the leaf springs would hit it if I were to hit a bump. Where is the best place to mount the fuel pump/filter? Can I leave it in this location? Should I move it?

Thanks,

Here is a great tech article on CB: http://classicbroncos.com/tech/electronic-fuel-injection

I located my filter in the same location.

either inside of frame after you move it forward from present location or cross member above rear differential.

I mount my LP pumps right above the tank outlet on the cross member.
High pressure outside the frame somewhere where it wont interfere with stuff.

fix those wires, they will leave you stranded at sometime in the future. need something sealed either a solder connection with dual wall shrink tubing on it or a weather pack connector.

Thanks for all of the input. I will eventually move it to where the diagram shows. I just do not like its current location. That EFI article had great information.

I will also make sure that I fix the wires.

Thanks again for your input.

Measure the vertical distance from the bottom of the bumpstop to the bottom of the pump fittings. Then measure from the axle tube (where the bumpstop will hit) to the U-bolt plate (or whatever's gonna hit the pump). The bumpstop will compress, and the axle articulates, so the first measurement needs to be ~1" larger than the 2nd.

The ideal place for a LP pump is LOWER than the tank, anwhere it won't drag or get hot. The HP pump can go almost anywhere.
