I'm reverting from headers back to stock cast iron manifolds on my '69 project, and need to order new bolts. I'm uncertain which set to get. The engine is either an early 302, or perhaps a late 289. (The previous owner knew a replacement engine was installed some years before his time, but never got solid info which was dropped in.)

The manifolds I picked up appear to be a bit later, casting D1AB and D5DE.

I'm seeing kits with 12 bolts/4 studs for '66-70, and 15 bolts/1 stud for 70-77. Which kit do I need? Do I use the 4 stud kit to match the engine? Or the 1 stud to match the manifolds?

Went to the garage and took a closer look at the manifolds. Each one has 4 thin flanges (1 on each port), 2 medium flanges (1 on each end port) and 2 thick flanges (one on the two middle ports). So I'm guessing I need the 4 stud kit.

4 studs. One at each end. That way you are aligned and the gasket is supported. Easier to manipulate the bolts into place.
