Quick question...

Striking out at all my local auto parts stores for new exhaust manifold bolts. Can I just pick some up at my local hardware store?

Mine came out just fine however they are looking preeeeeetty sketchy. Dont trust them to reuse them.

your auto parts place should be able to order these.

Remember you have 2 exhaust manifolds so you need enough sets to cover on both sides. assuming you are using the stock manifolds.

Thanks. I have those. I am referring to the bolts that hold the manifold to the head. There is 8 of them. 4 short, 4 long. I snapped a stud on the flange and had to remove the manifold in order to get it out. I have the bolts so I can match them up, just wondering if they need to be special "exhaust bolts" or if normal grade 5 from the hardware store will work.

I used plain old grade 5 bolts with a flat, and a lock washer. Worked out beautifully, and still hasn't come loose.

I used regular 3/8 USS grade 8 bolts, with SAE flat washers from the hardware store. Just took them in to match up length. The 4 studs I took to a local mom and pop parts store and they pulled a bin of mixed stuff out and found them new shiny and everything.

Neither Grade 5 nor Grade 8 is suited to that application. Grade 7 is heat-resistant, and you'll never find them at a hardware store. Read this caption & shop your local parts stores, online parts stores, Amazon, & eBay:

If you need a short one with stud head, cut a long one.

You learn something new every day... Grade 7, guess I missed that conversation in shop class way back when. :p Or more likely forgot it...
