How is this different from a 4x4x2 box? I'm assuming the fittings on the top are for hydraulic steering or something of that sort....

yes the fittings are for a steering ram hoses.

probably because it came in a psc box when it was purchased brand new. just like the one for my 79 bronco came.

this box is modified so the pitman arm points in the rearward direction just as the stock early bronco does. it is a 76/79 box built by psc made for an early bronco.
