As everyone knows, Half Cab tops are EXPENSIVE. I have seen multipul half cabs that are simply cut-down full hard tops. I was wondering if anyone had documented this process?

Thanks alot guys!

Years ago I fashioned a half cab fastback. I took the hardtop and cut it in front of the rear side windows, effectively making a half cab. I then had a local upholstry shop make me a cover that extended from the cut top to the rear tailgate. I had them add a rear and side windows. It worked very well and was very tight. On good days I rolled the rear portion up. I added supports to the inside of the rear cover to supor the top while driving down the road. Otherwise, the wind would push down on the top and obscure the rear view. I don't have any digital pictures of the EB, but I found an old picture of it the other day while looking thru photo albums.

That is bad-ass! Very cool butchering indeed. I would like to see pics of the process too. If space werent a problem; tops being as cheap as they are nowdays, it would be cool to have several configurations and change them like hats...Being a Broncoholic really is a problem--isnt it?!? :-[

That is really good looking, wish I had a full cab in the garage!

On the same topic I have been considering putting a "metal" top on the top of my roll cage that covered the front seat's, has anyone done that and have any pictures?

I wanted a "canback" type cover but don't have the head room in my garage so was considering doing a hard "bikini" top.

The latest issue of Bronco Driver Magazine had a note in one of the front pages asking people to send in pictures of their "custom" hard tops. So if you wait a few months you'll probably have a magazine full of them. Well, a couple pages at least.

There's an EB kicking around Vegas that has a top that looks for all the world like something Stroppe and PJ dreamed up . From the side it looks like a wing , ala "Big Oly" but it is actually a cut up hardtop that has been shortened and has spillplates attached to the sides of the roof , it also has some louvered "B" pillars that extend back further than a stock half cab . The workmanship is so-so but the idea and the look is neat . Maybe someone could photo hack something like that together as I haven't been able to catch the guy standing still long enough to get a pic . or even ask him who did it .

I saw an EB here in Charlotte that was having some work done on it at Tarheel 4WD Center that had a custom hard top. They had a family cage that basically formed a big rectangle up at the roofline. The two sides and liftgate were removed and the top was botled to the windshield frame and then bolted to the roll cage with some ubolt type hardware. Looked pretty good, but havent seen it around town since then. Kinda like a metal safari top.

Look in my gallery. There is 1 shot of my truck before I tore it apart. I had a 3/16" aluminum sheet from windshield to back of my family cage. It would support some of the heaviest people. Very stout. It isn't hard to do either.
