I only have the two rod holders for actually fishing off the tailgate... the top rack will hold a dozen or more...

Rod racks on the early Broncos.

The best solution that I found for transporting fresh water rods to 7' long ; is that I mounted a old school gun rack inside the rear window , passenger side, using small bungee cords to hold rods in place. :) To transport my surf rods I used THULE ski racks mounted to the THULE roof gutter racks. With this set up I also mounted my THULE kayak rack. I covered all my fishing needs with this set up. TTM.

I believe the rod holders attached to the inside of my bronco top (see photo) will hold 6. There are two of them installed, rods go above the roll bar.

Why don't you use a front bumper mount rack like me use here on the beachfront. I'm guessing you are using spinning equipment? Not fly or baitcast???
