FJ40 wiper transplant

Has anyone installed early '70s Landcruiser electric wipers that are mounted over the windshield on an EB? They have one motor and a sliding cable to move the second wiper. So they move together like the Bronco electrics but take up a lot less room. The early visors and head liner would work. The windshield could also be folded down. They are 2 speed and the delay switch should work.

I've seen it done on a couple of rigs, I believe the FJ40 wipers sit closer together though so you need to drill one new hole in the windshield frame for the wiper drive shaft to slip through.

Unless you have a line on one though - they can be hard to find and expensive when you do find them. I have two close friends who are long-time FJ40 enthusiasts and if you think the Bronco hobby is expensive, just hang around an FJ guy for a while...

The reason I brought it up was as you said some have done it and I saw one at a car show. The owner was being a bit smug and would only share that it came from a Landcruiser. I liked what I saw and found one being parted out. The distance between the shafts became apparent when compared to an early vacuum frame. I later compared
it to the Bronco electric frame and it's nearly identical. So if someone with the vacuum wipers wanted to upgrade to factory electrics they would have to weld up at least one hole and drill a new one also. I recently found shop that can make the cable drive what ever length I need now I to map the swept area and superimpose it on the Bronco windshield. Where i can pick the coverage I prefer. Many of the frames offered by venders have no holes.

Good info, thanks for sharing... I too would love to ditch my EB electric wiper contraption for the cleaner, simpler FJ solution.
