I just installed a brand new Carter P4070 yesterday, mounted to the frame just in front of the rear tank. 2 Fuel filters, 1 before pump, 1 before carb, all new rubber hose from tank to carb (only temporary, replaced plastic hose from PO hack-job) I fired it up and let it run while I put tools away.. enough for it to get up to 200-210 degrees. I took it up and down the block and it went fine until I pressed the gas half throttle or better, it jumped to take off and then surged until I took my foot out of it then it returned to normal. Went up and down again, same thing, parked it for the night. Went out today to look at it, saw one fuel line that was twisted and possibly a little kinked so I straightened that out. I put a fuel pressure gauge on it, but its a 0-100 gauge so its hard to tell. The needle only goes up to about the first mark which is between 0 and 5. I'm going to disconnect the gauge and try it out again while I wait for a friend to bring another gauge but I was wondering what you guys are seeing for pressure at the carb on your P4070. I have a Holley Truck Avenger 670, looking on Holleys website the truck avenger installation sheet recommends 5-7psi. If I have only 3psi I think the pump I just bought may be bad?

I've never checked the pressure on mine but I've run the 4070 for over 30 years on my bronco with holley carbs and never had a issue. A twisted line could have been the issue or just some debris in the carb could have caused the issue as well. the 4070 is supposed to put out between 4-6 psi. Fuel pressure gauges are iffy at best unless you have a real good one.

My gauge runs a little over 5 with the regulator turned wide open. I turned it down to 3 psi at OCBR and no issues with getting fuel (same carb on a 395 stroker), I forgot to turn it up for the cruise thru town on Friday night and still no issues with getting fuel, probably doing 40-50 mph on the way back to the park.

ok I just took it for a spin around the block and made a good pass down a 1/4 mile stretch of street at near full throttle with no issue so I'm assuming the twisted line restricted the flow enough to cause the problem... But now for some reason it seems to run hotter.. gauge went up to 230 when it normally is 190 cruzing and 210 at stop lights... I'm going to check the thermost and will report back if necessary. thanks for the unput fellas.
