Its one gasket. The gasket was split in two. Some kind of manufacturing defect.

In your video, you say it'seems a steel core, but it doesn't look like it has a steel layer. In fact it's torn between ports. I can't imagine being able to tear a steel core gasket like that.

I sure wouldn't use a non steel core gasket with an aluminum intake. Even if they said "Edelbrock" all over them.

I replaced the Edelbrock 7220 non steel core with a Fel-pro 1250S3 steel core.

I'm currently in the process of replacing my Edelbrock gaskets as well. Haven't gotten the intake off yet, but from what I can see from the top they don't look good. I'm going with the 1250S3 as well.

I've used the edelbrock 7220 for years without a problem. Must have been a defect.

This is a LOT more common than you think. I wrote up a post on this a couple years back. Did a ton of research and had a good chat with a FelPro rep (retired now) who said this is becoming more common than you'd think.

I also posted up on Corral.net and got a lot of posts with pics of gaskets literally rotting in half... like mine did...

An aluminum intake manifold expands at a different rate than the iron block and even aluminum heads. If the gasket isn't steel reinforced, it can do some crazy things. i've had them split at the intake ports, coolant ports or both.
It's a good bet that a lot of owners are running around right now thinking their engine is shot, but just have a bad intake gasket. It will use oil and run really crappie without fouling plugs.

For some reason and a couple of FelPro reps reluctantly agree---silicone sealant softens or dissolves or whatever you want to call it, it ruins the sealing ability of the gasket and it will just twist and warp and shrink out of place.. it's not getting pulled apart from expansion rate it literally is shrinking and twisting out of place. i'd have to look at your picture again and I can't access it on my phone right now to see if you used silicone around the areas were a gasket

Go to the go fast forums and there's been a lot of debate from the guys who make their money Racing and building Ford engines.

Thanks! The timing of this was perfect. I had a set of Felpro 1250's on order and I was easily able to change it to the 1250S3. I am installing an Edelbrock aluminum intake onto my 351w Ford block and they did recommend the Felpro 1250 gaskets in their installation manual.

Shit really? I put black permetex silicone around the water jackets. both sides. By the way the Holley street dominator intake kicks ass with TBI EFI.

>>> the following link is a thread I started on this topic back in feb. of '09....some links are probably dead now.... http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135536&highlight=fel=pro+printoseal ........ forget those silicone base sealants, the "right stuff sealant" really is way better even though it's pricey.... thought most have used it by now & converted, those who haven't it's a sticky elastomeric rubber type gasket sealant/maker... & I like the caulk gun type much better than the cheezwhiz version...

No more silicone around the jackets...I, along with tens of thousands of others since silicone came out :) always did it this way...

Now I use Cometic intake gaskets... along with their head gaskets.
