Ford 4x4 Power Steering box value?

Hello,

I was going through my stuff this afternoon and I remembered having a couple of 1975-1979 Ford F-150 ps boxes out of 4x4 trucks.

I had more than a couple. Are these still commonly used for PS swaps or is everyone doing the Nissan/Cherokee box swap or something from a vendor? I am aware of converting them. Just deciding if I should keep them or what.

Also, on the used market about what is the going rate on these boxes? Is there still demand for them?

Thank you for your time!

Yes there is still a demand for them, the other boxes you mentioned are good but the 4x4x2 is still the preferred choice for bigger tires.
I'm not sure what they are worth now but as they get harder to find the price of a good one keeps going up.

I've purchased roughly 40 of them over the years to build 4x4x2 boxes for anywhere from $60 each up to $125 shipped.

Ok that is good to know that they are still relevant. They are awfully beefy compared to some other options.

Thank you, Rob

Based on what I've seen lately, I think unconverted boxes are probably worth $125-$150.

I've seen the prices creeping up into the $200 range for the F150 4x4 boxes in my area, but that's just the asking price...I don't know what they're actually selling for. Best guess would be $150-ish.

Asking price and selling price are not necessarily the same thing yes you are true. But less than $100 shipped sounds like a damn price from 15 freaking years ago. Hell it would cost almost that to ship a son of a bitch

Just bought a heater seal kit from Tom’s and it cost more to ship it than it did to buy it

You should call them and ask about shipping. I just got an order from them and the cart price showed shipping to be 24 bucks for a few smalls. I called and asked and was told to write "ship cheapest" in the notes and I did that and brought the ship price down to about ten bucks. Also I have shipped the steering box for 19 bucks with a flat rate box.Ken

Ok. You know I got to thinking way back. I have been pretty serious about Broncos for about five years. But I did have one back in 04. I screwed up and sold it for a good price at the time with a lot of extra parts. Anyways, I sold a 78 Box for $125 to a guy at Toms in Medford 15 years ago. I had forgotten that.

I'd probably ask $150-ish depending on how tight it is etc. when I go get around to it. I have a large amount of stuff I have gathered and need to go through it.

Thank you, I just needed to see if the boxes are still relevant which it sounds like they are. They are awfully beefy.

And yes on the shipping being outrageous. When the rates went through the roof about ten years ago I essentially quit shipping anything. It just isn't worth the hassle for a relatively low value part. Particularly if it doesn't fit in a flat rate box.

I used to ship stuff weekly. Now it is like once a year.

I bought a good size rear end in 2009, off of eBay, it cost 60 bucks to ship it across the country on a pallet. I bought a Dana 44 late last year and it cost more than I would have paid ten years ago for the complete axle, just to ship it now. You guys have to excuse me because all I can remember and go off of is the past, and despite what my wife says I have a pretty damn good memory.

I squawked about it a little bit, I was on the phone; I would rather call than get an email stating some simple part is on back order or something when I could’ve just called another vendor and had that same part coming right away, not wait and lose the extra time. They looked up a shipping quote to try to make it cheaper and it was five or four dollars more than that. I’m not sure how to ship it any cheaper. It was a heater re-seal kit, just the small felt and foam gaskets and such, I’ve had one before and did the same thing I’m doing now, the box is not that big, I’d say maybe 4“ x 10“ x 8“ or smaller, and is really nothing that can get damaged in there they could run over the damn thing and it would still be good. I’m just a cheap bastard.

Most shipping companies are not equipped for handling small packages, only the USPS are, so when shipping small items by other shippers a large box is used.

I have more questions than answers.
Waiting on a package from a heater manufacturer. Item is a sensor for a heater, the size of a watch face. $11 and change for shipping through FedEx, only way they will ship it..... Been a week, coming from Oregon backed up due to weather delays. The sad part is they won't let me email a shipping label..

I have a vendor that has there own delivery truck to my area weekly, cheaper for me to use a 3rd party delivery by about 50%..... I don't understand why they don't want to fill up their own truck.???? Shipping can be a killer.
