What am I looking at here? Please educate me. Pulled the rear center section to reseal and change the fluid. Noticed this welded place on the carrier? I haven't driven this truck more than 10' in my driveway before I tore it down. Does have a factory 4.11 gear set. If this is "welded spider gears" I can see a rebuild that's going to have to happen as the truck is basically going to be a Street queen...
Thoughts?

Never welded spider gears before but check out this youtube video at 6 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ1mWJFevUs

I think you would know immediately if your spiders were welded. From what I can see in your second photo, they do not look like they have been. You should see the spiders turn as you move the ring gear.

What you are showing in the pic is not welded spiders. My guess is it's just 50 year old clean up on stock parts. Old school FORD factory style. You will have to tear down the unit if you want to inspect further. Good time to swap to a better diff.;D

Thanks guys! I am going to clean it up and put it back in for now. Easy enough to swap later if something is wrong.
