Ford Licensed Replacement Grill Question

Can anyone tell me if the Ford Licensed Replacement Grills are galvanized finish? I’m getting ready to start priming for paint and wondered if I need to worry about it being galvanized. I got the grill from Toms Bronco Parts but I think pretty much all the vendors carry this grill. Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

Maybe, give Tom's a call. I bought a grill from JBG and it was not. However, I can tell you that California thinks they maybe dangerous, tho.

From TBP's WEBSITE: "WARNING: This product may contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm."

I love the idiotic warnings Cal. requires. I guess if you ate the steel grill, you may get cancer.

I’ve called Toms like four times today and keep getting disconnected. I thought maybe someone on here might know. I agree with California’s Cancer warnings.

The ones ive seen made by dennis carpenter on origional tooling were either zinc coated steel or galvanized. I cant forsure tell you what the coating is but it is coated and not bare steel. If your worried i would contact Dennis carpenter.

I had concerns with D C grillles coatings call them and the person I talked to was not able to find out what the coating was he believe it was zinc sprayed on after it came out of the dies. Be careful scuff it up and dp/epoxy prime and start there.

Guys, I appreciate the help. I think it is zinc because it is a really shiny silver. I’ll just hit it with some 220 them spray it with some etching primer followed by high build primer and then sealer. Thanks again

Don't forget to install it first. If you haven't done that already. Then remove it for prep and paint. That way you can get the fit dialed in.

Jim,
I have it test fitted on my rig right now. There is definitely some tweaking to be done to get it all dialed in! But that's the fun part about building these things right?
