I'm getting ready to drop a new motor in my 72 and after all my searching its seems that the Ford Racing 351, 250 hp is about the cheapest ways to go. I know I will have to change out the oil pan that comes on it, but what else will have to be changed? Will the water pump and flywheel that come on it work? My Bronco has a C4 in it. Also for the guys that have put this engine in there Bronco how do you like it so far? I've been looking at several places on the web that sell the engine, but is there any places that might have it the cheapest you would recommend? Thanks for all the help, I'm in the middle of a frame off restoration and couldn't of done it without the help from all the info on this site! Thanks again.

I run that engine, and so far I really like it. I've only put about 600-700 miles on it so far but it does run well and has decent power.

I got mine from GEFracing.com. At the time, they were the cheapest I could find, with no tax and no shipping charges to boot. It was $2550 to my door (in CA).

With an automatic - you are going to remove that flywheel so its not a concern. For anybody curious about running that motor with a manual tranny - read on:

The guys who answer the Ford techline will tell you that the flywheel will not work on any street application as it is too thick. I don't believe them and I'm running it - its a heavy duty truck flywheel which is what you want. My engine can lug down to 200rpms on the trail and stay lit. I found there to be ample adjustment in the factory clutch linkages to make it work. It took a different clutch than stock though - it was from a mid-late 80s Ford truck. I went with a diaphragm style clutch too.

The water pump will work if you're running v-belts. I converted to serpentine so I had to swap the pump - which was not a big deal at all.

The oil pan that comes on it rides a little closer to the track bar than I'd like. At the advice of 70eb (on this site) I swapped to the pan sold for swapping a 351w into a foxbody Mustang. It works better. It's part number M-6675-A58 and comes with the correct oil pickup.

I am running a Qjet carb on the BCB q-jet adapter plate. My qjet is originally from a 78 Camaro with a 350 and it seems to be a perfect match. The engine runs great with that carb.

Finally - ignition. The engine comes with a duraspark distributor. You can buy a "blue grommet" duraspark module and run it right out of the box. I did that for a very short time then converted to the crossbreed HEI-Duraspark setup that you can find info about by googling it. It works nicer and eliminates the need for a ballast resistor or resistor wire.

That's all I can think of for now...
