ford t10 output shaft question

I have 2 top loader 4 speeds and just bought a 3rd one for parts. The new one has a 3 inch shorter output shaft than my other two. New trans. has a 13.5 inch long shaft and uses the 6 cylinder adapter to its d20. My first 2 use a 17 inch output shaft as supplied by many dealers and uses the v8 adapter. I suppose it is possible that someone wanted to put a tc10 in a 6 cyl bronco but I am thinking not, because it came out of a v8 bronco. Looks like I am going to end up with a short output shaft and do not know what it really is supposed to fit. Any old timers out there that have knowlege on these? Maybe it is supposed to be a Jeep thing?? This is my first post so I hope I am doing it right. Thanks

Welcome.
Sounds like someone may have just adapted a regular toploader by having the output cut down and resplined and used a 6cyl adapter who knows hard to say. anything is possible. that V8 bronco could have been a 6 cyl at one time as well.
Just to be sure are you positive these are 4 speed tranny's? the stock 3 speed looks almost exactly like a 4 speed toploader with the exception of it only having 2 shift posts coming out the side. Kinda rare to get ahold of more than one 4sp toploader conversion. My toploader currently sits in the shed next to a ZF and a C4. one of these days i'll find the parts to convert it back to a car tranny.

Hey,thanks for your reply. I was really into early bronco's back in the 70's. I really liked the top loader 4 speeds when gas was resonable and racing sand was the thing. You just could not destroy one of them. Anyway, I have lots of left over parts from those days and never saw a 6 cyl adaption. This time, I am building a show type and want the nestalsia. Been out of it for many years and now, retirement makes it seem like yesterday. You never know what I may have in the cargo container for bronco parts.
