I found a local guy who had a 88+ AOD on Craigslist for sale a couple weeks ago. I contacted him, but didn't bite on buying it then. He called me this morning and sadi he still has it, adn is deseperate to sell. Supposedly his wife's car is broke down and he needs the money bad. I talke him down to $200 bucks, and he will bring it to me. I figure even if it is crap, this is a good deal right? He claims it was pulled from a wrecked mustang of his, and only has 28k miles on it. It comes with everything. Should I jump on this? Will it work for my EB? (with the adapter and etc..) I trust opinions on here, appreciate any advice.. thanks..

NO. Too much money for a core. You really cant use much of it. Make sure it is an 88 or younger trans The 87 and older have the bad oiling problem. The drums inside are cast and the planetary are bushing not roller. If you want to stay with the AOD I would suggest finding a core 4r70w and steeling the stamped drums and improved planetary set. Building a 4r70w would be smarter. With the adapter kit you will get a new tail shaft and extension housing so finding a car trans is fine.

I can get 4wd units from the local yard for $240 all day long. I'm pretty sure I could leave with one for less. I also paid $75 for a 2wd 4R70W out of a 97' with 7400 miles. Location does dictate price.

You guys are right.. Thanks for the help.. I found another guy (that I trust) that has a C-4 that was rebuilt strong for his demo car and not used because that car got totalled. I might go with this one.. any thoughts? He told me he would give it to me for $200 as well..

EB c4 or a 2wd c4? a 2wd c4 will take a bit of work - different tail, different adaptor - output shaft - maybe not a bargain by the time you're done... i like my c4 but it came with my truck. Starting fresh, i'd hold out till i found the right deal on a 4r70w for the od. At our local pick n pull - any tranny in the yard is $39 on wednesdays - $79 the rest of the week, imo keep looking.

I put a 92 AOD core on CL for $60 and had zero interest. Of course the 4wd 4R70W didn't have any interest either
