Found in oil pan....Any guesses?

Bolt it back on and keep going. perhaps a new oil pump while your down there, Clean the pickup good too.

yes...putting in new timing chain, fuel pump, oil sending unit, fixing the leaking dip stick, etc.

some other new items....new starter...solenoid...new bumpers...new fan shroud...possibly new radiator...removing bubbling tint on rear windows.....was going to replace windshield but may wait to do this...

AND....wait for it....new sticker on the fan shroud!!!! :)

I'm with Bax. Either the valve guides were repaired or someone over-revved the motor, although I'm not sure you could compress the spring enough over-revving to actually have the rocker touch this. It's difficult see this piece without taking the valve springs off. It's on the top of the head at the base of the valve stem

Strange how all of those pieces would make their way from the valve stem and make it in the oil pan without causing other damage.

Not really. From the top of the heads, the oil drains down through the block and into the pan. The oil pump pick-up has a screen on it. Without getting sucked back up by the pump, once they're in the pan, they stay there. What I want to know is how pieces that big made it though the oil return port. It's not that big a hole. I run an oil pan drain plug with a magnet, AND have a magnet around my oil filter for a little insurance.
