What does it take to replace the two seals on a Dana 44? Can they be replaced from the outside?

What seals do you mean ? The seals that keep the oil in your diff ? If so then no . You have to remove EVERYTHING to change them . Hubs , rotors / drum , spindles , axles & 3rd member .

I think you can leave the pinion in place, but everything else must go.
