front floor pan question

So the rear floor pan is done! Now moving to the front and ran into a potential problem or at least more work. The PO covered the rotted floor out by adding sheet metal over the top. I cut that metal out last night and looked at my new floor pan to replace it and it doesn't seem right. The new floor pan 90 degrees closes to the door side. It looks like the ones I'm cutting out were flat and spot welded to the lip of I think its the inner rocker panel. Am I off course here? Is the new floor pan not like the OEM? All advice is appreciated.

Jason,

You can either cut your replacement pan to fit, provided that you have good, solid metal to weld it too. The other option is to measure your new pan and cut the opening to fit. Drill your spot welds out, use and air chisel, and work the old metal out. As for the lip along the rocker, drill the welds and bend the 1/2" or so of metal up to expose the floor. Here are some pics of mine; before, during surgery, and complete.

The pan originally fit under the lip of the rocker, at least mine did. Drill out the spot welds, remove the old pan, clean up the old metal, and weld the new in. Chief's last pic is a good shot of the end product, but he has the full pan and yours is only half. Inspect it closely and repair all of it now rather than doing the later half in a couple years. Make sure you clean out those floor braces, mine were full of dirt, rocks, and bondo.

Thanks for the pics. I'll take some measurements and see what I have once I remove the rest of the original floor pan

I have the other piece of the pan that goes under the seat as well and a new front brace. Mine are crushed at the body mounts. Trust me I don't want to redo sheet metal work in a few years!

My original question was more about the replacement panel I took pics of. I will take some measurements tonight but if I have to bent the 90 degree angle straight to install like the factory did that's going to be time consuming. I'll update with pics of this progress

You may need to flatten and then re-bend your floor pan. Aftermarket parts may not fit exact and will require tweaking

It seems to me that the 90 degree angle acts more as a stiffener than anything. Fully remove your old one by drilling the welds from the top and bend that lip up to pull the old piece out. Then place your new pan in and fold the lip back down. Once you have everything in place, weld from the top. When you wrap up with the metal work, I would apply seam sealer the piece of the floor that runs along the rocker.
