Fuel Lines on top of Frame Rail?

I'm starting to plumb my fuel lines (supply & return) before setting the body back on the chassis. Is there any problem with running the fuel lines on top of the frame rail? I'll have a min. of 2" body lift so clearance should not be a problem.

If I stick to the inside I'll have a lot of dodging around the 4 link brackets, CAGE radius arm brackets, and the cross-member bracket. I see a clear route on the top right through the mid body mount. As soon as I get to the firewall I can turn up to the fuel rails. If anything, it should help with heat from the headers, right?

Any problems or safety concerns about doing this?

I've seen some people do this, and it seems like a good idea. I just ran new lines down the outside of the passenger side. But, when I do a frame off later, I plan on running mine on top of the rails.

I'm pretty sure there are some pictures out there if you do a search.

i ran mine on top as well, mainly because i have a 205 that is very close to the frame. the truck is not on the road yet so i have'nt had any problems.

That's where I ran my ARB line (plastic) and there weren't any problems even with no body lift there's plenty of room for a small line like that.

And here I thought I was being original when I ran mine up there! It just made sense when I was replacing my fuel line so I put them up there. A few people who've seen my rig have commented on it and indicated that they'd probably follow suit. I put mine in with the body on the frame. It was not a problem at all. They run under the body mounts so the amount of body lift you run should make no difference.

Agree with everyone on here, I just ran mine on top too, heck the upper platform body mount makes for a great way to keep them up there too. I have a 205 and there is no way I could run it on the inner frame rail and as others have said if you wheel it is nice to keep it up out of the way of brush and tree parts. I only drop down for the fuel pump right there by the rear crossmember.

I took out the AUX tank and put the pump under my seat and ran all the lines on top of the frame, I use rubber 3/8 hose since mine is a low pressure carb system but I would obviously use steel and braided lines if it was EFI, being on top of the frame rail it takes alot of worry away it also seems to keep the fuel alot cooler since it's away from the exhaust, I don't have a body lift either I am kind of curious why ford didn't do it in the first place, I suppose it was for fear of corrosion.

if you will or may in the future run longtubes, mock it up first. my lines run too close to the collectors and I'm about to move them - I think I'm boiling the fuel after it all heats up

i did a frame off as well and debated running them on top of the frame rails.. however, i ran mine on the inside, but i'm now in the process of relocating them up top. However, how are you guys securing these to the frame rail on top w/ the body on? you can't drill a hole and tap it w/ the body on? all i can see is tie wraps (which is not a good idea next to the exhaust)? what did you all use?

I ran self tapping screws through clamp while the body was off, your right though cant do that with the body on. I can get to them now with it on but could have never installed em. If you ran it throught the body mounts you should only need 3-4 Zip ties hold it no problem....just keep as far off exhaust as possible. What are you using as fuel line?

Id take the metal over rubber.......I did mine in proflex SS/over rubber....next time will be something else....no biggie could replace it all in bout 30 mins 2" body lift makes it easy to get at.
