Fuel Tank filler rust

I had to buy a new fuel tank due to extreme rust. But, I still have one problem. The filler neck (where the cap screws on) that the rubber hose connects to and then connects to the tank is rusty. Any ideas on what I can use after I get the rust out of the neck to help keep the rust down?

Thanks

The outside is fine I was worried about the inside. I can get the rust off but if I paint the inside I think the gas would just eat it off when I go to fill it up over time.

Yeah, i was wondering the same thing. I've got a pretty good amount of rust in mine, and they don't sell new ones, as far as I know. Just used. I was thinking of taking it off, running a flexible wire brush on a drill through it, and maybe coating it with something. The only thing I can think of that would definitely be OK with the gas is the POR-15 gas tank sealer. I have some left over, I think from a motorcycle tank I did. I worked great. I'd like to find an alternative to this, since it's kind of a pain.

I'd be a little wary of those tank sealer/coatings. I'm hearing there may not be compatible with new mixes of fuel coming out. Broncojack on the board was telling me about this. Might be something for Snopes.com to check out, but still, I ain't putting them any of my tanks or fillers.
