Gas dripping from bottom of carb

Taught my 13 year old son to change my oil today. That's a pretty cool day.

Anyway, in the process I saw a pretty fast drip of gas coming from the bottom of the carb. I've read a little and see options for rebuilding, etc. But, I'm curious if there's an easy first thing or two to try? I may get a rebuild kit just because it couldn't hurt, but hoped for something easier for this particular issue.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Make sure it is not leaking from the accelerator pump diaphragm on the front near the top of the carb. It has a weep hole and a bad diaphragm causes a leak from that hole..... it’s a cheap easy fix. Work the throttle and see if gas comes out of that weep hole.

Could be the accelerator pump. Or it could be the Power Valve and power valve cover gasket. You would know if it is the power valve because the Bronco would run like stink, literally.

Slow, I think you hit the nail on the head. Covered the hole with my thumb, nothing. Removed the thumb, decent dump of fuel. I wouldn't say this it the top of the carb, but still think it's what you're talking about. (See pic). So, a replacement fuel pump diaphragm is what I need? Tough to install?

Also, I attached a second picture. This metal tube was running naked and the obvious rubber hose belonging to it was close by. I re-attached the hose. I don't know what this is though. Can you tell me?

Thanks again.

Pics coming next.

Pics for the prior post.

Sorry, both pics are rotated. Top is on the left of both.

The metal tube I asked about second is in the near middle of the second photo.

That’s leaking for sure. I keep a spare diaphragm in my toolbox.

Your carb is a little different from mine. I don’t have that tube. It sure looks like a vacuum port. Probably for the carbon canister.

Maybe somebody else will chime in with an answer...

Congratulations on teaching your 13yo how to change the oil. Time to step up and teach them (and yourself) how to rebuild the carburetor. :)

The rebuild kit is cheap, and will give some assurance that your engine won't go up in flames. Replace the fuel filter and section of rubber line going to it as well.

Your second picture shows an open vacuum port next to the idle screw adjustment. Plugging that port (or attaching whatever went there) will likely result in a better driving bronco, and it won't be inhaling dirt and dust either. (as you mention in post above, which I missed first go around)

I can't find the original source for this pic (Bubba's carb page, but not sure where), but here it is reposted:

Awesome. Thanks for the help, guys. I just ordered a couple of diaphragms from the link above. I really appreciate it.
