Finally found a good shop that is doing all my blasting for me. Not bad pricing really. They are plastic media blasting every inch of the tub, top and bottom, plus fenders, tailgate, dash, etc, etc. Then they are Epoxy Priming the whole deal. I get it back next week and will post some pics of the finished product.

Now the sleeplessness sets in waiting to see the work complete!

Swood,

We want pictures when you are done! ;D

By the way, let me know how the POR putty works out when you get there. I'm following in your tracks on a couple minor hole fills.
Thanks!

The best I have found in my area is $650:00 for blasting everything BUT they dont spray the primer. I am still looking but afraid that this is the best deal I can find here. Bunch of rednecks :-

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!
Pictures and prices, puhleez! ;D
This is the stage I am at, my tub is quite good, just trying to decide whether to cheap out and *carefully* do the tub floor, underside and firewall with sand, or the whole thing with another softer media! Have a few patches to do, wanted it cleaned up and primered as it will take a while, and may also expose more holes / bad seams!

1) Blasting: Be very very careful who blasts and with what type of media they use. May will argue this point, but I have seen the results of a bad job. Certain media can pit the metal and leave you with poor results after painting as well as problems down the road. These guys know their stuff and use a plastic media. Unfortunately it is very expensive as you lose about 20% of your media being pulverized on each vehicle job. That results in about $250 in media material right there.

2) Priming: I don't have to tell everyone about the importance of a good primer base coat. Issues like rust and good paint adhesion speak for themselves. If you plan to Line-X or Rhinoline, you will find out that the adhesion of the bed liner is only as good as the single layer betwen it and the metal. Same goes for paint. From the shops I've worked with, Epoxy Primer is the hottest ticket out there, but again expensive. You also have to add in the time to tape items off that you don't want oversprayed, etc...

The whole process will take about 5 days of work. Two to blast everything to bare metal. One day to clean and prepare the metal for spraying. One day for Primering and the last day for curing.

Total cost is $1400. Ouch yes, but I will not have to worry about a poor job being done in a couple of years. this restoration will end up having taken me 3 years if I finish by this coming spring, so I'm not going to chince on important items like this.

I will most certainly have pictures posted on my web site, probably by next weekend, when all is said and done. Then it's back on the chassi for POR Patch work and off to be Line-Xed.

I had my tub plastic media blasted and primered with Epoxy primer last year for $500. That Epoxy primer is some tuff stuff. Definitely worth the money. I just happened upon the place and it turned out awesome. Over in the bay things cost a bit more. Then again, this guy may not do it for this price anymore.

I would be ASTOUNDED to find a shop anywhere near the bay area that would do that much work (5 shop days) for that price. The materials alone cost $500. You got a Steal! I called probably 50 shops that could handle anything of this size. Of these shops only about a dozen actually used the correct media and had a good amount of experience with work like this. Obviously I took the best price of the bunch, but yes it is very very expensive.

Well it doesn't happen to me often, getting something that turns out nice done for a great price. Normally I pay through the nose for something and get half assed worked. So, needless to say, I was pretty happy.
